Ok kiddies, it's album-info time I guess. I find it pretty weird that I haven't actually ever had an album of my own on the streets, I kinda don't know how it never came to pass really. I came close with Stiff, but politics and alleged skulduggery made me nervous, so I walked away from it all, but, that was then-this is now, and I am making the album even as you are reading this stuff. I'm doing it at Fido 2000, my studio which I installed about a year ago. I wanted to do an album, but complete elimination of assholes holding the purse-strings was the only way to go, so I took the plunge, spent the dough, and the rest is up to you and me, ok pals?
As for material, I am putting some ghosts away in that dept, as in `Crying all night`, a tune which you guys shout for on live gigs, (hmm, must do more of those) your awareness of what us lot get up to has always impressed me, and I understand that the backing tracks from the Stiff sessions, (with Pete Thomas on drums, Big George Webley on bass, and the illustrious Deke Leonard on Superguitar) with guide vocal have been in existence for some time, so I've just gone at it the way I wanted it to be, it's almost finished, hope ya like it.
Flash! The thing about having a studio in the west-wing of Wallis Grange is actually a double-edged sword, on the plus side, no assholes holding purse-strings, on the down side, me left to my own devices, whereby indolence and temptation lurk in the wings at all times. Having no studio clock leads to `Option Anxiety`, `cos when you can keep a track or dump it, put Delay/ Chorus whatever on a track, is the guitar break ok? Are 127 guitars on this song enuff? That kinda thing, one tends to agonize a bit, but I'm trying to be more disciplined, so the release-date can actually be thought about in a realistic way, `onest guv.
This doesn't always apply of course, `Meatman` was a one-take- that'll- do job, and we all liked it a lot.
Who are `we` I hear you ask, well, for a whole buncha reasons, later for that, `kay?
In fact `Meatman` is the only finished track so far, which speaks volumes about agonizing.
I have had `When`s the fun begin?` part two in my head for many years, and finally it has a title, it's called `Are we having fun yet?` Mickey Farren set the tone of `Fun` with his amazing lyric, and I kinda think that the Sci-Fi Desolation Mickey conjured up has maintained okay. Who needs hope and optimism, eh kiddies?
Speaking of the Farren-dude, we have a song, (no doubt there'll be more) on the album, once again the lyric came from Mickey, and I let the words suggest the musical tone, and hey-guess what?! It swings. I know, I know, swing ain't what I do. It's kinda guitar-band plays jazz on drugs, and has the wonderful title of: `Don`t fuck with Dimitri`, so move over Mr Shakespeare, Farren is in town!
Now, `Police Car`, I have often felt that a new version is needed, not that I wanna change the song, I might just be able to do it, how can I put this? Oh yeah, Longer, Louder, and with more guitar may be the way to put it, I dunno, we'll see. What do you lot think?
The album title `Death in the Guitarfternoon` may need a track named after it, I dunno `bout that either.
`Screw it`, is almost finished now, and to those in the know, there will be absolutely no doubt as to who the no-good parasitic piece of human garbage this tune is about may be. I like this song a lot.
`Pick up the gun` is still very much a work in progress, as is `Mrs Hippy Burning`, the very titles evoke all kindsa images in the old gourd, so more of those songs a bit later, when they have more substance.. `Pick up the gun` of course, comes from the movie `Shane`, so, one for the film-buffs.
Right now I'm working on another Farren lyric, `Tell that to a downtown jury`, I dunno if this will be part of my thing, or maybe one of the other projects that seem to have become possibilities, like maybe a Colquhoun/Farren Wallis album, as Andy has just finished his solo project, or a Farren/Wallis album, all is possible gang, keep watchin` the skies, we live in a digital age, okay people?
This has been my first shot at re-connecting with you guys, I hope I made sense, and that you didn't die of boredom whilst checking me out, so if there's anything you wanna tell or ask me. I`d be real glad to talk to you thru` the @ddress here, ok ?
Over and out kiddies.
Lazza.
